ROSE -- VIRTUAL ADOPTEE
My name is Rose and I am now 12 years old and very sweet.
I was raised in a house with a bunch of other dogs and get
along with just about anyone. I am not up for adoption
because I have diabetes insipidus (DI). When I first came
into the rescue, my foster mom recognized that I was drinking
A LOT of water and needing to go to the potty A LOT. I was
also peeing in my sleep. I really hated when I woke up after having my accidents.
In my case of diabetes insipidus, it looks like I am missing a hormone
by the name of vasopressin. As I understand it, that hormone works with
the kidneys allowing me not to pee as much, so I don’t need to drink as
much. I just started treatment that replaces the hormone and it seems to
be working. I am not drinking as much, or peeing as much. The only
downfall is that I currently need to get a shot two times a day. My
vet tells my foster mom that my urine values are much better. I think
my foster mom was told by my vet to try and cut one of my drugs that
was being used to stop me from peeing when I slept. We will all have
to wait and see how that works out!
My current medicine costs about $2 to $3 a day, but I also need
to be seen regularly by my vet for tests so he can adjust my
medication; that gets a little expensive! The good news is I
can now wait for a month before I have to try to pee in a cup
again. Have you ever tried to pee into a cup you can’t see or
hold? I tell you, the stress is enough to make me freeze up so
I can’t perform!
If you can help offset my medical cost, I would really love to
have your support. My long term care costs may keep my rescue
from saving other Dalmatians in need. If you could contribute
toward my medical care, CCDAL would be really grateful to you!
